Right, so this question is really related to the higher average price point of a pellet grill compared to a gas grill or, particularly, a charcoal grill.

Now, if you only intend to use a grill infrequently, say a couple of times a year and you only intend to grill your foods, then no, I don't think a pellet grill is worth the additional cost.

The point with pellet grills is that they are not just pellet grills, they're pellet smokers as well. Therefore, their key strengths are beyond just grilling foods/direct heat cooking.

A pellet grill/smoker is particularly good at automated indirect heat cooking/smoking. For this type of cooking, there are very few other BBQs that can offer the combination of low maintenance/ease of use with great flavor.
