Yes, the Traeger Pro 22 is actually quite proficient at smoking, even more so than its successor the Pro 575. You're probably thinking, how could that possibly be the case?

Well, the older Pro 22 uses a more basic control panel with temperature swings of around 25 degrees from the set temperature. The more modern Pro 575 features a modern PID controller with 5 degree temperature adjustment.

While more accurate temperature control is a benefit in one sense, its also going to reduce smoke production, as smoke comes from inefficient combustion, and hence temperature swings.

More premium Traeger models starting with the Ironwood 650 have a PID controller but also get a 'Super Smoke' mode which adds in wider temperature swings (more smoke) when desired. However, the Pro 575 doesn't get the Super Smoke feature.
