Example Question:
Is a pellet grill also a pellet smoker?
All pellet BBQs are pellet smokers which operate similar to a convection oven. Some models are horizontal versions which can also be used as a grill. While others are vertical models which are purely pellet smokers, and cannot be used to grill foods due to their lower maximum temperature settings.
Now, some pellet grills are more capable grills than others. For instance, many of the earlier pellet grills had a maximum temperature setting of just 450 degrees, which is not ideal for good grilling performance.
However, many modern pellet grills have a temperature setting of 500 degrees. Some can even be set as high as 600 to 700 degrees. Some also offer direct-flame access for grate surface temperatures in excess of 650 degrees.
You can use our database to order pellet grills within your set budget which have these higher temperature settings and/or direct-flame access.
