Is A Traeger A Grill Or A Smoker?

I understand how this question comes about, as pellet BBQs are very different from gas and charcoal grills, and therefore what their exact capabilities are can be confusing.

So, as of this moment, all Traegers have the capabilities of a grill and a smoker. As they don't currently sell a vertical pellet smoker, which are purely smokers with no grilling capabilities.

Now, you will see/hear comments from some that Traegers aren't actually grills as all, and that's because their maximum temperature setting is either 450 or 500 degrees. Which, is not ideal when it comes to grilling performance. Ideally you do want closer to 600/700 degrees.

It's not that pellet grills, in general, cannot reach those sorts of temperatures. There are now many pellet grills that can provide a grate temperature of 600 to 700 degrees which you can find through the link below to our database.

It's just currently, Traeger has yet to release one of their models with a temperature setting that high.
