12 Steps To Smoked Chicken Wings On A Pellet Grill/Smoker

Hi, I’m Chris. About Me

We’re keeping it really simple with this recipe. However, getting smoked chicken legs right is about good preparation as much as it is about getting the chicken legs on your pellet grill/smoker. For this recipe, these chicken legs with given a double dose of two different BBQ rubs before they went down onto the pellet grill.

Step 1: Get your pellet grill/smoker going set to a temperature of 325 degrees, then with your chicken legs on a tray drizzle over a little bit of Olive Oil over each one.
Step 2: Wearing gloves for food safety, rub the Olive Oil all around each of the chicken legs to provide a good binder for the BBQ rubs.
Step 3: For this recipe, two BBQ Rubs were used, the Recteq Honey Rib Rub (Brown Sugar, White Sugar, Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Paprika, Chili Powder, Oregano, Cayenne) and the Recteq Four Letter Rub (Table Salt, White Sugar, Granulated Garlic, Butter Powder, Onion Powder, Pepper, Apple Cider Vinegar Powder).
Step 4: The first Rub to go onto the chicken legs was the Honey Rib Rub. Please note, that for chicken legs you only need a light bit of seasoning.
Step 5: Finally, the Recteq Four Letter Rub was applied over the top of the Honey Rib Rub, again, only go light with the seasoning on chicken legs.
Step 6: It is important to remember to do both sides of the chicken legs with seasoning. Just be careful with food safety and picking up raw chicken.
Step 7: The chicken legs then went onto the pre-heated pellet grill (the Recteq Bullseye in this case) and left to cook for 90 minutes.
Step 8: Once the chicken legs had reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees, they were finished cooking/smoking and ready to come off the pellet grill.
Step 9: As you can see the double BBQ rub seasoning has given the chicken leg skin a lot of color along with a lot of flavor, however, they’re not quite done yet.
Step 10: Finally, dunk each of the cooked chicken legs into some BBQ sauce of your choosing.
Step 11: Lift the chicken legs out of the BBQ sauce and then let the excess sauce run off for a few seconds and its done.
Step 12: Smoked chicken legs are one of the simplest meals to prepare on your pellet grill/smoker. However, they are personally one of my favorites and a great option if you need to cook for a lot of people.
