Example Question:
Can you just BBQ on a Traeger?
BBQ is primarily cooking foods low and slow over a long period of time which is indeed a function that Traegers and pellet grills/smokers in general are very good at due to their automated feed of pellets from the hopper to maintain a set temperature for many hours consistently.
When it comes to grilling, Traegers currently have a maximum temperature setting of 450 to 500 degrees. These are not ideal temperatures for grilling, ideally, you want a higher grate surface temperature. However, if you drop in a set of GrillGrates you can improve the grilling performance of a Traeger.
However, beyond BBQ and grilling you can also use a Traeger for baking. Personally, I would encourage everyone to try cooking a fruit pie in a Traeger/pellet smoker with some Cherry or Applewood pellets. Delicious!
