As a general rule, you should expect consumption of 1 to 1 and a half pounds of pellets per hour at lower smoking temperatures (225 degrees for example), and at higher temperatures up to a maximum of 500 degrees on a Pit Boss, around 2 to 2 and a half pounds per hour.

However, the size of the cooking chamber on your Pit Boss is also relevant. If you have one of the larger models such as the Pro Series 1600, you'll use more pellets than a Pit Boss portable/tabletop model.

You also need to consider the ambient temperature outside the pellet grill/smoker. The 'general rule' pellet consumption figures above are for mild/warm weather use. However, during cold weather winter use, expect pellet usage to maybe even double during particularly cold weather.

Again, a caveat is whether your Pit Boss is twin-wall insulated. Currently, the only twin-wall insulated Pit Boss models are the Titan and Pro Series Elite.
