So the answer to this question depends on two variables. What did you pay for the BBQ pellets used and what temperature is the pellet grill set at?

When it comes to pellet grill usage, when low and slow, say around 225 degrees, typical pellet consumption in summer will be around 1 to 1 and a half pounds per hour.

When it comes to high-temperature grilling (in the Summer) at temperatures of 500 to 700 degrees, pellet consumption will be 2 lbs per hour, maybe more.

However, note, the lower the ambient temperature, the more pellet consumption will increase.

Anyway, the second variable is what you paid for pellets which typically come in 20 lb or 40 lb bags. We actually have a BBQ pellet database on our home page where you can research the lowest and highest priced per lb BBQ pellets.

Currently, the lowest price per lb of pellets is 33 Cents. Therefore, under Summer use, when low and slow at 225 degrees (1 lb per hour), it would cost 33 Cents per hour, and grilling/searing the cost would go up to closer to 66 Cents per hour.
