Beyond offering a different flavor profile compared to other hardwood BBQ pellets, the main benefit of charcoal pellets is the highest BTU heat output of all available BBQ pellets.

Therefore, quite simply, charcoal pellets burn hotter than hardwood BBQ pellets. This can be particularly useful if you have a pellet grill that has a relatively low maximum temperature setting, say an earlier generation Traeger with a maximum setting of 450 degrees.

By burning charcoal pellets the Traeger will be able to get up to its maximum temperature setting (and maybe even exceeded it) notably faster than even with Oak pellets, which are typically the best option of hardwood pellets when it comes to grilling/searing foods.
