Example Question:
What are the best pellets to use in a pellet smoker?
There are some general recommendations of pellet types/flavors for different types of meat. For instance, Oak pellets are a good allrounder, and they can produce a nice/mellow smoke flavor that works with everything from Chicken, Seafood, Lamb, Pork, Beef, and Veggies.
You then have sweeter smoke flavors from Applewood and Cherry which work well with Poultry, Pork Seafood, and baked goods.
With the stronger smoke flavors from Mesquite and Hickory, these are generally best suited to red meats and game.
However, these are just general recommendations. I always encourage new pellet grill/smoker owners to play around with the different pellet flavors to find their own personal preferences.
I also encourage them to play around with our BBQ pellet database on our homepage where you will not only find all BBQ pellets on sale today but you can see which are the cheaper pellet per lb.
