The Pit Boss Competition Series 850 and the Pro Series 850 are two very similar mid-range Pit Boss models that are very similar to each other. In terms of their cooking areas, both the main grate and the overall cooking area, they are identical.

In terms of price points, they are also very similar, there is only $50 between them, with the Competition Series 850 being the cheaper option. So are there any notable differences between them? Yes, there actually is.

The Pro Series 850 is a second-generation model (other larger Pro Series models are Gen 3 with a better controller). As such, the Pro Series 850 does not have 5-degree temperature adjustment, which the Competition Series 850 does have. 

Therefore, as the Competition Series 850 has the more advanced controller and its actually $50 cheaper, its clearly the better option between these two Pit Boss pellet grills.
