Step 1: First step, get the hot dogs onto your work surface, give them a good covering of mustard, and use your hard to work the mustard all over them.
Step 2: Next, it’s time for the rub, in this case, the Pit Boss Sweet Heat rub was used, which contains Garlic, Coffee, and Molasses.
Step 3: Generously apply the rub over all sides of the hot dogs, now they are ready to get smoked.
Step 4: For this recipe, the hot dogs were smoked on the Pit Boss set to 225 degrees using their Competition Blend pellets which are a mixture of Hickory, Maple, and Applewood.
Step 5: These are what the hot dogs looked like after smoking for around an hour and a half.
Step 6: Next, get the hot dogs out of the smoker/oven and shop them up into pieces. Aim for pieces roughly an inch in length. Therefore, you should get four pieces from each hot dog.
Step 7: Then, simply place the chopped-up hot dog pieces into a baking tray for the next step.
Step 8: Next, add a small cup of butter and a small cup of brown sugar to the baking tray.
Step 9: Then the hot dog pieces are covered in sauce. For this recipe, the Pit Boss Sweet Heat BBQ sauce was used.
Step 10: You don’t want the hot dog pieces swimming in sauce, but they need to get a good covering.
Step 11: Next, increase the temperature of your oven/pellet smoker to around 350 degrees to heat up the sauce for it to bond to the hot dog pieces and for the sugars to caramelize.
Step 12: After about 20 to 30 minutes, this is the end result and ready to be served, a very easy but simple appetizer for everyone to enjoy.
