Try Something A Little Different With These Smoked Hawaiian Hot Dogs

Hi, I’m Chris. About Me

Most of us enjoy a simple hot dog, but really, they can be very plain on the flavor front. Therefore, if you’re looking to make your hot dogs a little different and you like the Hawaiian flavors of fruit and meat, these smoked Hawaiian hot dogs might be worth giving a go.

Step 1: This recipe starts with some chopped up red and yellow peppers, and some chopped red onions placed on a rack. A finer rack would be better, but by using a rack such as this, the smoke will flow around the vegetables.
Step 2: You’ll then want to place the chopped peppers/onion on the upper rack of your smoker, along with the hot dogs. Set your pellet smoker to its lowest temperature setting for maximum smoke production for around 45 minutes.
Step 3: To continue with the Hawaiian theme, some mango is needed, and this is a trick to remove the skin of the mango using a glass.
Step 4: This was the first time I’d seen this glass trick to remove the skin from a mango, and it does appear to work really well, keeping the mango flesh intact.
Step 5: Roughly chop up the mango into bite-sized pieces. No need to be exact, but don’t go too small with the pieces.
Step 6: These are the base ingredients for the Hawaiian hot dogs, with the smoked peppers and onion, but the mango has not been smoked.
Step 7: You’ll then want to finish cooking the hot dogs, and at the same time, some pineapple slices. In this case, the Z Grill was set to 450 degrees. After five to six minutes they’ll be done.
Step 8: To fill up the Hawaiian hot dogs the base is loaded with the hot dog meat and the smoked peppers.
Step 9: Then, the smoked red onions are added with the sweet unsmoked mango chunks on top.
Step 10: Then, to finish, the grilled pineapple is added along with a honey dressing. Personally, I love Hawaiian pizza, but I’ve never tried a Hawaiian hot dog. I definitely want to give this recipe a go.
